About the Church

Welcome to a Catholic church!

What kind of place is a church? Catholic Tamatsukuri Church will support and welcome everyone who wants to go there or see it.

What is the Catholic Church?

The Catholic Church is the "one, holy, universal, apostolic Church,” led by the Pope, who is the successor of the Apostle Peter and the successors of the Apostles.

The history of the Catholic Church in Japan begins with the arrival of St. Francis Xavier in 1549, which is an important period in Japanese history. Since that time, the Catholic Church overcame a history of amazing development, then prohibition and persecution, and then the miracle of the discovery of hidden Christians in 1865, bringing us to where we are today.

Can anyone participate in mass?

Of course, anyone can participate, even if you are not a believer.

Before the Mass begins, there will be someone at the reception desk, so please first tell them, “This is my first Mass.'' They will give you the Mass schedule. If you have any concerns, please feel free to ask us anything.

Please remember, those who have not been baptized cannot receive Holy Communion.

At Tamatsukuri Catholic Church, those who have not been baptized will receive a blessing from the priest, so please feel free to line up with others. When you reach the front of the line, all you have to do is bow your head in front of the priest, so please muster up the courage to receive the blessing.

For Mass times, please refer to: "Mass schedule"

Please come to our Christmas and Easter Mass as well.

Can anyone come in?

The church is always open.

If you are visiting for the first time, you will be surprised at how calm and soothing the atmosphere is.

You can also freely admire the buildings and historical furniture.

However, it is a very important and sacred place for believers, so please follow the minimum etiquette (no eating or drinking, no loud noises, etc.).

Once you sit down and have a relaxing time, I'm sure it will become one of your favorite places to visit again.

However, some conditions apply: Both of you must be married for the first time, and both of you must attend a marriage preparation course.

The ceremony will be held on Saturday either at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m.
