Blessed Justo Takayama Ukon Martyr
Space for Prayer
On the right side of the inner sanctuary, up the slope from the pews, there is a prayer space displaying relics of Blessed Justo Ukon Takayama Martyr, which was installed after the beatification ceremony of Blessed Justo Ukon Takayama at Osaka Castle Hall on February 7, 2017. Since 2021, "The Life of Justo Takayama Ukon," donated by Kayoko Murata, has been on display to help us in our prayers for the canonization of Blessed Ukon Takayama.
The significance of the canonization of Blessed Takayama Ukon is that in this age of relative values, when it is difficult to live with conviction, he believed that the salvation of mankind depends on the gospel of Jesus Christ, saw what is the true value of mankind and what makes mankind truly happy, and proactively chose his own way of life toward that goal. He showed us the way to choose love for God and others as the criterion of our choice, no matter what situation we find ourselves in. This is because Ukon continually chose to live a life of hearing the gospel and obeying God, no matter what hardships he faced.
